Women’s golf falls to Grand Valley in 1st GLIAC final

The second-seeded Northwood Women’s Golf Team lost 4-1 in match play to top-seeded Grand Valley State in the Timberwolves’ first-ever appearance in a GLIAC Championship final on Sunday at Stonehedge Golf Club in Augusta, Mich.

Ines Dorado took NU’s only win, 72-73 over Grand Valley’s Julia Sanchez.

In Northwood’s other four games, Tyler Kautz lost 67-83, Morgan Colby lost 74-83, Sufna Gill lost 76-78 and Sydni Harding lost 72-80.

The Timberwolves will travel to an NCAA regional super May 2-4.

NU TAKES TWO FROM PARKSIDE IN SOFTBALL


The Northwood softball team swept Wisconsin Parkside on the road Saturday, beating the Rangers 8-4, 5-3 to improve to 24-12.

Shayna Frank (12-6) picked up the win in Game 1, going 5 1/3 innings and allowing four runs on six hits and three walks.

Alexis Koehler went 3 for 4 with a slapped walk and run and scored twice for the Timberwolves, while Haley Frank went 3 for 4 with a triple and an RBI, Madison Jordan went 2 for 3 with a triple and a double, a walk, an RBI and two runs scored, Emily Mankel had two hits with a double and two RBIs and scored twice, and Gabby Schloop doubled and drove in two runs.

Anna Gustafson (3-1) picked up the win in Game 2, going 6 1/3 innings and allowing three runs on five scoreless hits and six strikeouts.

Haley Frank went 3 for 4 with a triple and two RBIs, while Mankel had two hits with a double and an RBI and scored twice, and Alyssa Gibson drove in a run.

T’WOLVES LOSE HIGH CASE IN WAYNE STATE

The Northwood baseball team suffered a 21-15 loss to Wayne State on Sunday, slipping to 23-16-1 overall and 9-7 in the GLIAC.

Jake Jekielek (5-1) suffered his first loss, going 2 1/3 innings and allowing five runs, including four earned, on a hit and a walk.

Blake Salamon went 3 for 5 with a double and two RBIs for the Timberwolves, while Myles Beale had two hits with a triple, three RBIs and two runs scored, Khale Showers had two hits with a home run and two RBIs and scored twice, and Joey Johnston had two hits and an RBI and scored twice.

NU will host Saginaw Valley State in a non-conference game at the Dow Diamond on Tuesday at 6:35 p.m.
