Woman gets lifelong flight around the Great Valley

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO) – The Solstice Senior Living in Mesa hosted their annual ‘Living the Dream’ event. The event is where they can help make some dreams of the elders come true.

Each resident writes down an idea they would like to do. It’s a great way to take an item off their bucket list. Solstice then names a winner and makes that idea a reality.

Sharon Grove, a current Solstice resident, made her dream come true when she was nominated for this year’s “Living the Dream”. She had wanted to go see the helipad at the top of Saint Mary’s. However, due to unforeseen circumstances, this was not possible. Instead, she was given a 2 hour plane flight over the Great Valley.

“I was able to call Colorado Flight Center and make arrangements for her to have a two-hour flight,” said Lauri Bertram, director of Vibrant Life at Solstice Senior Living in Mesa.

“I flew somewhere along the river. And look out and see and it’s amazing how much green there is in this area because of the river and the irrigation systems, ”Grove said. His plane ride photos are mounted on a wall on the main level for everyone to see and enjoy.

In 2022, another inhabitant will be able to make their dream come true and cross an item off their bucket list.
