Pamplin Media Group – North United Irrigation District to Elect New Members to Board of Directors

Council Chairman Marty Richards resigns after serving a quarter century on the panel

The election for the Northern Unit Irrigation District Board of Directors will be held on Tuesday, November 8.

Voting will take place at the NUID office, 2024 NW Beech St., Madras, and voting will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Council Chairman Marty Richards is not running for re-election after serving a quarter century on the council. “It’s going to be tough quitting because I enjoyed the people I worked with,” Richards said. “It’s in good hands. It’s the right time to step down.”

The vote will determine two seats on the board of directors for two divisions of the district, Division 3 and Division 5, and terms will be three years beginning Jan. 1, 2023.

The Division 3 nominees are Ryan Feigner, Ron Oliver and JoHanna Symons. Two are nominated for Division 5, Trish Backsen and Vern Bare.

District board members have played an increasingly important role in recent years as the board has faced environmental pressures and drought. “We invite people to be a board member,” said Mike Britton, Executive Director of NUID. “It’s not an easy job, not an easy job.”
