October 7, 2021 – The Lake McSwain Fall Trout Tournament brought good weather, great memories – and for a few, it made some serious money.
“I think somehow everyone who came to the Derby won”, said Brooke Gutierrez, director of MID Parks and Recreation. âWhether you received the top prize or not, you had a great time here if you participated. “
Gutierrez added that the fishermen are already registering for the next derby to be held in spring 2022.
In total, nearly 240 fishermen took part in the derby. It started on Saturday morning and ended on Sunday evening. The entrance fee was $ 25 per adult. Children under 16 fished for free with adult entry.
The winners of the derby are:
The biggest trout for $ 2,000:
Johnny Estrada Jr – 21.75 inch fish
Stringer of the three longest fish for $ 2000:
Ndzeu Heu – 55.25 inches total of fish
Wild Card for $ 500 (one adult chosen at random from all participants)
Brad Murphy – 14.75 inch fish
Wild Card Kids Fishing Rod and Tackle Box (one winner under 16 at random). Sponsored by Splash N Dash / Reel Deal Café and Marketplace
Briar Mayfield – 12.25 inch fish
The McSwain Derby was again supported by the Fish Donkey smartphone app, which has become popular among anglers in recent years.
âEveryone had a great time and most of the anglers we spoke to were already discussing the spring 2022 trout derby,â said Gutierrez.
