Grand Valley State U partners with Littera for high-impact tutoring for Michigan schools

A new partnership between Grand Valley State University NextEd Co-Lab and Literature Education will provide every K-12 school district in Michigan with access to high-impact, research-based tutoring, according to a press release.

GVSU’s K-12 Connect tutoring initiative offered through the Littera academic support platform means Michigan school districts can now implement, customize and track the performance of high-impact tutoring programs, said the ‘university.

The K–12 Connect initiative was created by GVSU researchers and education experts in May 2020 to support Michigan families with tutoring as the impacts of the pandemic on learning began to become apparent. The program recently expanded to work directly with schools, districts and community organizations across the state, offering high-dose 1:1 and 1:2 tutoring in all subjects and grades, with a additional focus on targeted reading support.

K–12 Connect is staffed with tutors who study education and are employed and trained by GVSU College of Education faculty. By partnering with the Littera platform, the K-12 Connect tutoring program can allow participating districts to integrate their own curriculum into instruction as well as track each student’s session attendance and progress, according to the press release.

“Together, K–12 Connect and Littera provide Michigan students with ‘high dose’ tutoring – the only model proven to accelerate learning,” the university said in its announcement. “High-dose tutoring means that students receive instruction several times a week, with the same tutor for the duration of the program. Students and tutors interact in person or through real-time audio and video, fostering relationships that support learning. »

The K-12 Connect program has already launched in several Michigan districts and will be available in all Michigan districts this fall, according to the press release.
