Grand Valley softball team sweeps Ferris State in GLIAC action

BIG RAPIDS — The Ferris State University softball team dropped a pair of Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference home contests to take on Grand Valley State on Thursday falling 5-0, 8-4 at FSU Softball Field.

In the second doubleheader of the year against the Lakers, the Bulldogs were limited to just two hits in Game 1 as they lost 5-0. Grand Valley State produced the opening runs with three in the fourth and added single runs in the fifth and seventh for the victory, totaling nine hits in total.

First baseman Evelyn Blood and second baseman Josie Prince had the only hits for FSU as GVSU’s Hannah Beatus earned her 15th win of the year striking out 10 and walking six in seven full innings. action in the throwing circle.


For the Bulldogs, the line of Kristina Baar, Kristie Gray and Aryn Gallacher combined to allow five runs on nine hits with five strikeouts and three walks.

In Game 2, Ferris State started the scoring with two runs in the second as freshman outfielder Maddie Gkekas scored a two-run double to left field. GVSU cut the lead in half with a run in the third and held it 2-1 until the Lakers produced six runs in the sixth to take control. They added a single run in the seventh, with the Bulldogs getting a pair of runs late in the inning before the Lakers recorded the third out. GVSU had 11 hits with FSU managing six in the final drink.

Blood and designated player Kaitlyn Orme had two hits apiece for the Bulldogs. Blood joined Gkekas with a brace. In addition to Gkekas’ two RBIs, Price and Orme also drove in a run.

The trio of Baar, Gray and Gallacher combined again to kick off Game 2 and allowed eight runs on 11 hits with four walks and two Ks. GVSU’s Genesis Eggart picked up the win, giving up four runs on six hits safe with four walks and four strikeouts going the distance.

The Bulldogs, who wrapped up a 10-game homestand, now hit the road to face Purdue Northwest on Saturday and Wisconsin-Parkside on Sunday in a pair of conference road doubles.
